“THERE ARE BLACK PEOPLE IN THE FUTURE.” -Alisha B. Wormsley

The Black Student Network recognizes that the struggles of today are historically familiar, as the empowering voices of marginalized people continue to be under and misrepresented. Being able to reclaim lost perspectives, reintroduce indigenous methodologies, define ourselves, and imagine a future that does not yet exist is perhaps our strongest weapon against erasure and towards liberation. Therefore, it is vital that we disrupt the status quo and transcend boundaries to create a future for us and by us.

The 10th Annual Diversity in Research and Practice Conference calls for poster, paper,  and multi-modal presentations that seek to expand the ways in which we think about marginalized populations in all experiences of human development. We believe that dialogue, collaboration across disciplines and engagement of various approaches of inquiry are essential to harnessing our capacity to be catalysts of change.

This year, the Diversity in Research and Practice Conference offers:

Paper Presentations: Oral presentations, aided by PowerPoint, that may involve one or more presenters.

Poster Presentations: A visual display of work as the participant(s) engage attendees about their work and answer questions.

Multi-modal Presentations: Work that examines and addresses the theme of the conference through music, video, art, or spoken word.

Workshops: A hands-on approach to addressing new research skills and other strategies aimed at improving and educating attendees on a topic or issue.
