Call for Dissertation Participants in Online Language Learning

Recruitment Flyer

My name is Farah Akbar, an Ed.D. candidate in the Program of Applied Linguistics and the TESOL at Teachers College. Currently, I am collecting data for my dissertation research project titled ‘Text and Voice Chat in Language Learning’ (IRB #: 19-361) and need to recruit 25 native speakers of English, who will be randomly paired with learners of English, to participate in:

  1. text-chat and voice-chat once a week for 30 minutes (10 times)
  2. individual interviews biweekly for 15 minutes (5 times)

Voice-chat and interviews will be audio-recorded.

Dates of the study: June 17th – August 30th (10 weeks)

Location: Online via Zoom

To this end, I need participants who are:

  • Native speakers of English
  • NOT language teachers

I am attaching the flyer of this study below. If you are interested in participating, please contact me via email (fsa2108@tc.columbia.edu).

You will receive a link to a 15-minute background questionnaire to start with. You will need to complete the survey to see if you qualify for participation in the study (Note: if you meet the criteria specified above, you will likely qualify).

At the end of the study, enter a raffle to win a $30 gift card (1 in 5 chances).

Many thanks for your help in advance!
