The 30th Avenue School (Q300) is a citywide gifted and talented K-8 school located in Astoria, Queens.  Through the inclusion of diverse student identities, inquiry-based learning, and data-driven decision-making, Q300 will graduate students who will collaborate with others to ask meaningful questions, to solve complex problems, and to responsibly engage with their communities and beyond. By exploring who they are and who they want to be, students engage in the active process of making knowledge and better understanding the world around them in ways that drive a sense of responsibility and action.  Students at Q300 receive a comprehensive education that prepares students for competitive high schools and beyond. 

Our community of learners is comprised of empathetic, inquisitive, dedicated educators and staff who are committed to working in a collaborative team to ensure that our students’ social, emotional, and academic needs are met.  All of our Elementary teachers and staff are trained in the community building, instructional, and discipline philosophy of Responsive Classroom. At the Middle School, we use an Advisory Based Curriculum to support the academic and socio-emotional needs of our learners.  Our school’s core values are inclusion, inquiry, and responsibility. 

We are looking for educators with commitments to creating an environment in which every student develops strong teamwork, questioning, investigation, analysis, communication, and reflection skills through inquiry-based learning. In addition, we are looking for teachers that are committed to knowing students as individuals and to creating a safe and caring environment.    

At present, we have a current immediate vacancy in Grade 1. The ideal candidate should: 

*       Possess K-2 or 1-6 state certification and licensure

*       Preferably possess dual certification in either special education or gifted and talented extension and/or certification

*       Be familiar with or have experience with inquiry-based learning, Teachers College Reading and Writing curriculum, and Responsive Classroom practices and approaches.

*       Have an understanding of the needs and challenges of 2e students
