Candidates applying for certification on or after May 1, 2014 or candidates who applied for certification on or before April 30, 2014 but did not meet all the requirements for an initial certificate on or before April 30, 2014, will be required to pass the following new exams in order to obtain an initial teaching certificate in New York: Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA), Educating All Students Test (EAS), Academic Literacy Skills Test (ALST), and the Revised Content Specialty Tests (CST).

If you will be graduating in May of 2014 or thereafter, do NOT take any of the current exams. See notes below.*

In addition to the new exams, candidates applying for initial or professional certificates after Jan. 1, 2014 will be required to fulfill the new Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) requirement unless you have applied and paid for an account with NYS before July 1, 2013 via:http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/teach/selfreg.html.

*Special notes: 1) The Content Specialty Test (CST) is the only exam transferable toward meeting the new certification exam requirements, 2) Candidates holding NYS initial certification prior to May 1, 2014 will not be required to complete the edTPA or other new exams.
