Between January 2019 through May 2019, our research team at the Educational Testing Service (ETS) will be conducting phone interviews (~90 to 120 minutes per interview) with preservice elementary teachers from across the country to provide us with feedback on a set of items designed to assess content knowledge for teaching (CKT) in the area of matter and its interactions. This research is currently being funded by the National Science Foundation (grant number 1813254). I am reaching out to see if you’d be willing to share the attached recruitment letter with preservice elementary teachers that you are either currently working with, have worked with in the past, and/or know – any help that you can provide in helping to spread the word about this opportunity would be greatly appreciated!

It has been our experience that, because these assessment items are so closely tied to the teaching of content to students, preservice teachers find these types of assessments very interesting and quite different from traditional assessments of teacher knowledge. Often participants comment that these assessments provide them with opportunities to think about their own science pedagogy and consider the various challenges that arise in science teaching. Each preservice teacher would receive a $75 virtual gift card after participating in the phone interview.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer in distributing the attached recruitment letter so that we can reach our goal in having a diversity of preservice elementary teachers from across the country participate in these interviews.

If you have any questions about this study, please feel free to contact the study’s principal investigator, Dr. Jamie Mikeska, at jmikeska@ets.org or via phone at 609-252-8574.

Take care,
